Painted on the magical day of 11/11, this piece captures a golden sunset in Boquerón, Puerto Rico, as seen from my uncle’s property—where the ocean meets the sky, and sometimes, a horse cools off in the waves before the sun goes to sleep.
I created this while in my final semester at Queens College, just weeks from earning my B.A. in Art History. I was grieving the loss of my grandmother, unable to be in Puerto Rico, but holding her close in spirit. This painting became a way to process the pain and honor her memory.
Yet within the sorrow, there was also light—a new love blooming. The man I was dating at the time (now my husband) brought comfort, hope, and a love my daughter and I deeply needed. I painted this for him, as a symbol of healing, transition, and becoming. To love is to honor your past, cherish your present, and step with grace into your future.
Boquerón is more than a landscape. It’s a moment in time—of grief, growth, and gratitude.
